Dr. James. C. Lu is a doctor with a unique understanding of the human body and its capacity to heal. His in-depth experience is recognized both professionally and personally. He has over 23 years of medical expertise in acupuncture and physical therapy and regularly conducts international lecturers on their benefits. He was also National Champion in Chen Taichi for 5 consecutive years in China and in the USA.
Dr. Lu is licensed in both Acupuncture and Physical Therapy. He holds a doctoral degree in Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine and a Master’s of Science from the American College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. He is also fully certified by the Board of Physical Therapy Specialty as an Orthopedic Specialist and received advanced training in Manual Therapy from the University of St. Augustine.
Throughout his studies and experience, Dr. Lu found that combining acupuncture with rehabilitation leads to maximum recovery potential with minimal pain. His work resulted in the first outpatient acupuncture program in the Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), where he extends his services to pre- and post-operative care for patients who have undergone cardiac and thoracic surgeries. He also runs a second clinic at Bayshore Acute Rehabilitation to facilitate the recovery of stroke, surgery, orthopedic injuries, and cancer support.
In addition to his clinics, Dr. Lu provides integrative acupuncture and physical therapy in the inpatient rehabilitation unit of Good Samaritan Hospital, Mission Oak Campus in Los Gatos, CA. Dr. Lu’s primary experience is in integrative orthopedics, stroke rehabilitation, and pain management. He also has extensive experience in treating gastrointestinal, neurological, gynecological, and allergic disorders.
Phoenix Lu studied performing arts at the National Taiwan University of Arts. Before coming to America, Phoenix worked in the TV commercial and magazine industry in Taiwan for several years. Once in America, she built up a successful international e-commerce business selling beauty products. Phoenix is passionate about helping patients feel at home and giving them the confidence they need throughout the recovery process. When Phoenix is not working, she enjoys experimenting with new cooking methods and healthy recipes. Phoenix is always looking for ways to live a healthier and happier life.
Brendan Liou graduated from the University of California, Davis in 2020 with a degree in Psychology and is starting his Doctorate of Physical Therapy program at UC San Francisco in Fall 2021. Brendan has experience working in a variety of settings, including general orthopedic clinics and inpatient hospital facilities, and is passionate about helping others recover through physical rehabilitation. During his free time, Brendan enjoys exercising, such as weight-lifting or boxing, and is an avid enthusiast of mixed martial arts. When he is not helping patients or staying active, Brendan appreciates spending quality time with his friends and family.
Bailey Coe earned her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo and is currently completing her Master of Occupational Therapy degree at San Jose State University. Bailey shadowed under Dr. Lu at a previous medical clinic in addition to mentorships with leading occupational therapists in the field. She is passionate about helping therapeutic clinicians create welcoming, restorative environments that incorporate a holistic, client-centered approach that maximizes client satisfaction. When Bailey is not learning more about how to become a better occupational therapist, she enjoys spending time in nature with her friends and family.
Adam Buttrey earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of North Carolina,
Wilmington. He was interested in physical therapy at a young age and has shadowed & interned in
multiple settings ranging from hospitals to private clinics allowing him to work with a broad range of
patients. His goal is to earn a doctorate in physical therapy and eventually open a clinic to help people
recover from injuries, which is what therapy did for him. Adam wants to build on his physical therapy
skills while maintaining a positive and safe environment inside HOPE Neuro-Acupuncture Rehab. He
demonstrates patience and genuinely cares about each person reaching their rehabilitative goals. In his free time, he enjoys working out and going over the hill into Santa Cruz to surf.
